Getting Unstuck
Ever been in a situation where you didn’t project your best self and then regretted it afterwards? I have. A lot. Over time I taught myself to manage my inner world – my thoughts and my emotions – better.
Here are some things I learnt:
- Breathe deeper – when I do this I think better and make better decisions
- Walk away – just taking a walk around the block helps
- Buy myself a fruit juice or a non-alcoholic drink – it distracts me and creates a distance between my frustration and the event or person
- Look up and smile – you can never hold the same “negative” thought when you look up and smile – try it!
- Call your best champion – for me it is my sister, she always listens to everything I say without judgment and just when I let my guard down, she slips in her wisdom in a gentle and loving way.
- Read something inspirational – it makes me rise above and see the bigger picture
- There are many things we don’t have control over, like someone else’s mood or the weather. But, we do have complete control over how we respond to what happened to us.
