Kelly Outsourcing and Consulting Group

As Vice President for Asia Pacific region , I was tasked to launch 6 services into 13 countries throughout the Asia Pacific region. This gave me a deeper understanding of Recruitment Process Outsourcing, Business Process Outsourcing, HR consulting, Executive search, Vendor Management Solutions and Outplacements. I also got a deeper insight into how the corporate world functioned and this is still useful in my consulting work today.

Business Trends Personnel Consulting Group

This was my first baby and venture into business. I started the business because I did not like the work environment at that time and wanted to shield myself away from the politics of the work world. I wanted an environment that was genuine and allowed people to grow. My mission of creating a better work environment was attractive to the people who entered my business and the business grew over the years to incorporate 17 offices in Asia. It grew to a size where it made sense to sell the business to a fortune 500 company. In a way it made me proud to see many people grow further in their careers because of the acquisition by Kelly Services.

Business Trends was a known name in the staffing industry and has contributed to the growth of the staffing industry in the region. A key contributor and friend was Dhirendra Shantilal, who remained my business partner for more than 20 years. I owe much gratitude to many contributors who helped the business grow: Jays Nithiyanandan, Kal Randhawa, June Ang, Christine Sim, Melissa Norman, Wanna Assawakarint, Bernadette Themas, Purnima Das, Yang Zhong Dong, Dee Lim and many others.

Business Trends has been part of Kelly Services since 2001.

GastroGeography of Singapore

GOS is an abbreviation of "GastroGeography of Singapore". Steve Chua and I started  this together as we wanted a truly Singaporean project - inspired and run by Singaporeans. Whilst we need to be open to ideas from anywhere in the world, we also feel strongly that we need to appreciate what is here in our own heritage first. Appreciating strawberries and truffles which are not local to our native geography is nice from a diversity point of view but we also need to value our humble laksa leaf, torch ginger or ulam rajah.

Mamakan

Mamakan was a parallel project at the Singapore Arts Biennale 2017.  The Mamakan experience and installation explored the idea of food, places and memory. The installation made up of concrete bricks and 100 edible plant specimens taken from a 2 km distance between Mt. Emily to Fort Canning, showcased that there is space for nature within urbanisation. The experience included walks and food tasting to create a multi sensorial experience.

bluetag

Blue Tag Australia - people friendly products

When I lived in Australia, I decided that I wanted to create a people friendly product company. We traded in products such as ergonomic furniture for children, ergonomic backpacks, chemical free body and hair care products and food that was organic and pesticide free.

Vital Spirit - Natural Skin Care

We also manufactured our own brand of skin and hair care products called Vital Spirit. Beautiful blue bottles containing essential oil blends in natural carriers. Delving into the world of production and natural skin care put me through a steep learning curve. It gave me essential learning that I still apply today.

Alternative Education

I have always felt that children need to be children for as long as possible and we wanted our children to enjoy learning for the sake of learning and not because either had to pass exams. We were inspired by the Steiner School System. We started the first Steiner kindergarten in Singapore. We were planning to set up a full school, however this school did not take off well in Singapore as the Steiner system did not support exams for children until they are much older. Parents in Singapore were afraid to take to that risk. We decided to move to Australia so that our children can benefit from this school system. As parents we learnt as much as our children in setting up the school and taking this journey with them.
