Reflection Is The Key To Learning

It's always a bit of a mystery when I go walking in the mornings as I let my feet lead me where I need to go. Today I am sitting under a shelter watching the rain, feeling the nice cooling spray from rain and the breeze. The smell of the ground when the rain hits it, is earthy and fresh. It reminds me of my childhood when I used to watch my grandma potter around in the garden.  What a privilege and joy it is to be able to just sit here and time travel to the past and enjoy the present fully. A friend was sharing a John Dewey quote last night, that we "don't learn from experiences, we learn from reflecting on those experiences." We can't reflect when we are stressed, only when we can step away and let life happen.

How we respond to life is the key, whether we see the rain as a hurdle we need to overcome, or an opportunity to stop a bit and take in life fully. A joyful life is a result of everyday behaviour choices we make.
