Privilege to Serve Others

As I walked to my car this morning, I met the cleaner who works at the condo I stay in and she was patting a grey cat... The same cat that sleeps on top of my car  and leaves a patch of fur on the fabric hood of my convertible. Whenever I noticed cat fur on my car I always thought to myself that it must make a warm cosy place to sleep on versus a cold metal car.

But what interested me was how this older woman ( the cleaner ) was treating the cat, like a precious child, she was giving it love. The cat tried to run away as soon as I showed up but It stopped when I invited the cat to come near me and I stroked it a bit. I told the lady that the cat sleeps on my car every night and runs off in the morning when it sees me. It made her laugh and then another cleaning lady joined her and by this time I was in my car and they were pointing to my car and laughing at how the car was that cat's comfy bed. Meantime the cat brushed by their legs wanting more love and circling around them.

It made me think about how many times I have gone directly to my car not noticing everything else around me. I smiled as I drove away, thinking what a joy it was to meet the smiling ladies and the cat.

Without saying anything, they reminded me of our connection to each other and all life forms. Mostly about what a privilege it is to serve others, as it helps us connect with the world and brings richness to our lives.
