The Best Way Out is Always Through

Go through road

It’s easy to give advice when you are not in the situation. I also know that when we are “stuck” in a situation, its hard to see a way out and consider solutions or think out of the box.

And yet from everything I have experienced in my own life, I know that the only way to deal with problems is to rise to the challenge and face them head on, to find the courage and strength to go through them.

Reminds me of the time when my first business partnership failed, I felt sorry for myself and felt that everything was so unfair, I went to bed crying. My dad came by to see me in the morning and he said “Never mind if you have lost all that money, I am proud of you because you had the courage to do it”. That turned me around and I felt that I needed to stop focusing on what went wrong and think about what I wanted to do. I arranged to meet my business partner at that time and I told him that I will buy him out. I was 21 years old; I had no money and no clue as to where I would find the money to pay him. But somehow things slowly took shape and I managed to pay what I owed him and also turn my business around to make good returns.

All I had going for me was that I had a clear intent of what I wanted and I was willing to put in the work to get through the problem and come out the other side…and I did!

I have learnt over the years that when someone is sure and focused on what they want … all of life will shape itself to fit into that vision. It does take time and it does take consistent effort. It is never a straight line, but after the initial difficult and trying period, slowly things start taking shape and it builds momentum. The trouble is, we sometimes give up just before we reap the returns. Deepak Chopra, in one of his books, tells a story of a man who goes to heaven. On his way to see God, he passes these rooms filled with beautifully wrapped presents from floor to ceiling … he asks who these presents are for and the angel replies ”These are wishes that people made but changed their minds before we could dispatch them.”

Sometimes, the answers are just right around the corner, we just have to believe that there is a way and that we are going to get there. I think we project a different energy and presence about us when we do and that in itself starts the process of positive change.

Giving up is not an option!
