Dancing in the Rain
My sister often writes me little notes and sometime ago, she left me a book with a quote from the book: "life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass, its about learning to dance in the rain"
I think this is such an appropriate quote for the world we live in today. We are going through a period of tremendous change in the world... Especially in the area of employment.
I often meet people in my work who have lost their job or have had to leave because of all the changes that their company is going through. And even if they don’t actually say it, I sense their concern “what if I don’t find a job like this again?”
This is valid concern but when we start “wearing the concern”, our energy shifts and we give off a vibe that cuts opportunities away from us. I often wondered why when I place two equally qualified people in front of my clients, one would get the job and the other not. This has to do with how they project themselves… Without knowing we project the thoughts we think even if we don’t articulate it openly.
Someone who believes that there are more than enough opportunities out there for him behaves, speaks and walks in a different way from someone who thinks that “there are no suitable jobs out there."
I know of two people who gave me examples of dancing in the rain recently. The first is a senior executive who left his company, he was shattered and confused to start with. He found himself a coach and he started rebuilding his presence in the market, he actively went out to meet and recruiters and he networked actively, within 6 months he ended up with board level role with a much better package. The other person runs her own business and she was telling me about meeting a customer who wasn’t happy with her company’s service. She told me how she met the customer and addressed her concern and managed to get the customer smiling again. She said: ”this is what dancing in the rain is about” you go and face it with a positive mind and an inner confidence that you will always find a way.”
Someone I met recently gave me a great analogy of letting go, she asked me to imagine that I was standing with my back to the edge of the cliff and below is a beautiful stream. Without looking back, I allow myself to fall backwards into this stream… Knowing that the universe will catch me and bring me to safety.
Sometimes when we are challenged, we need to be vigilant about our thoughts, its easy to drift into “negative’ thinking but the people who thrive through adversity are those who focus on what they want instead of what they don’t want. And then they take the necessary actions towards the outcome they want. Once they do the work, they know how to let go without losing their focus on their end goal that when they face minor hurdles along the way, they smile and see it as an opportunity to dance in the rain.
There is a joy to dancing in the rain, a sense of freedom and release... Letting go and letting in all the goodness that life has to offer.
Head looking up to the sky, arms outstretched and smiling!
